Mr. Ripley began training in TaeKwon-Do under Mr. Dave McKenna (6th Degree black belt) in 1984, training for a short time (9 months) before putting his training on the back burner for a busy family and work schedule. In Oct. 1997 after a long absence he returned to the Art of TaeKwon-Do in pursuit of a greater frame of mind and physical conditioning, training as often as possible to be the best he could at each belt level before moving on to the next belt.
Mr. Ripley was never one to rush through a belt level and on Oct. 1 2001 he took his 1st Degree Black Belt test. He taught for 2 years at one of Mr. McKenna’s satellite schools in Eastern Passage, as well as at the Michael Wallace School in Westphal (Dartmouth) and some classes at Mr. McKenna’s main school.
Mr. Ripley started competing in February 1998 and has competed in just about every competition available world-wide. He has had a very successful career in competing, placing in the medals in every competition and in 2001, he became the Eastern Canadian and National ITF champion in sparring. Mr. Ripley successfully held the Eastern Canadian title for 4 years straight.
